South East Governors Appeal To President Tinubu To Release Nnamdi Kanu
It’s interesting that South East governors, traditional and political leaders of Abia, Anambra, Imo, Ebonyi and Enugu states agreed to collectively appeal to president Tinubu to stop the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Independent Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, a government proclaimed terrorist organisation, and release him. Also, Nnamdi Kanu’s influence cascades to the notorious Eastern Security Network, ESN. The leaders are seeking political solution to the ongoing trial of Kanu. It’s debatable if this is in order.
Notwithstanding, how will the families of people killed by IPOB activities get justice for the pronouncements of Nnamdi Kanu and the criminal activities of IPOB? These leaders should go back to their hallowed spaces to meditate, develop and come up with plans on how to compensate soldiers, policemen, widows, orphans and parents of children who were killed by IPOB and ESN. This should be on the top of their recommendations to president Tinubu as they appeal for the release of Nnamdi Kanu. Any thing short of this will be tantamount to celebrating the death of security officials and innocent citizens on the altar of Nnamdi Kanu’s irresponsible promotion of terror on hapless, innocent law abiding citizens.
While president Tinubu has the Constitutional powers to order for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, he must direct the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, Lateef Fagbemi, to craft a iron-clad undertaking that will commit Kanu to be of good conduct, drop all acts of rebellion, accept responsibility for any killings in the South East states. Also, Nnamdi Kanu must report daily to the nearest Police/Military formation in his area of residence, al least for a period 3 years.
By the collective agreement of South East governors to appeal to president Tinubu for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, they should know that they have directly accepted liability for the actions of Kanu. I call on the governors of Abia, Anambra, Imo, Ebonyi and Enugu states to come up with a compensation package that will compensate the loss of lives of soldiers, policemen, children, widows and widowers, etcetera, who lost their loved ones through the actions and pronouncements of Nnamdi Kanu as the leader of IPOB that he led to kill and maim innocent citizens. This is the way to go.
