President Tinubu’s Cabinet – 60 Days Ticking

Nigerians must thank Providence that ‘it turned the heart’ of former president Mohammad Buhari albeit he wasted six quality months before he formed his cabinet, to sign the necessary Executive Order that fixed and limited the timeline for the formation of a new cabinet by his successor to 60 days.

Considering the harsh situation of Nigeria’s economy, the recent removal of fuel subsidy and its attendant hardship and inflationary effect on Nigerians, it would be better if technocrats form the majority of Tinubu’s cabinet.

However, political considerations, fueled by partisan interests of sharing the spoils of election victory, will lead to competent persons being sacrificed on the altar of political considerations. Definitely, this will diminish the quality of policies developed by the Presidential Advisory Commission, PAC.

Technocrats have the necessary experience and expertise to pilot Nigeria’s economy out of the stormy waters that it has presently found itself.

Notwithstanding, the responsibility of who gets into the cabinet of Tinubu’s government falls squarely on his shoulders.

Bottomline – the height of success that the Tinubu administration will achieve, albeit his election victory is being challenged in court by opposing presidential candidates, will be a function of the calibre of men and women that he appoints into his cabinet.
