PDP Crisis: Wike Takes Control, Appoints 14,000 Advisers

The People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has appointed 14,000 advisers for various political units in the state.

According to a statement signed by the Governor’s spokesperson, Kelvin Ebiri, the advisers will play a pivotal role in the administration.

“In addition to the 14,000 advisers, Governor Wike has also appointed 319 Ward Liaison Officers and 40 Local Government Area Liaison Officers,” Mr Ebiri said.

“The appointments are with immediate effect.”

Watchers of political developments in the PDP and Wike’s stand against the refusal of the party’s chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, to resign, say the appointment of these Advisers may be a political strategy by governor Wike to consolidate his iron clad hold on Rivers State’s PDP, especially as the party has commenced her presidential campaign. This recent appointments are meant to establish the presence of PDP across all units and wards in the State, and to stop the impending infiltration of party members by the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, from having any influence to take over control of the PDP in Rivers State.

Governor Wike is expected to hand over on May 29, 2023 after his eighth year tenure elapses.
