Nnajigate: Uche Nnaji Resigns Over Certificate Scandal

Nnajigate: Uche Nnaji Resigns Over Alleged Certificate Forgery

Yesterday night, the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Geoffrey Nnaji, resigned over his certificate forgery scandal, relieving President Tinubu from carrying the embarrassment his certificate forgery scandal.

Nnaji was appointed minister in August 2023, stepped down following allegations of certificate forgery. The resignation takes immediate effect.

President Tinubu has accepted his resignation.

In a statement released by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Tinubu, Bayo Onanuga expressed appreciation for Nnaji’s service to the nation and wished him success in his future endeavours.

It was learnt that DSS officials visited the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and questioned key officials, including Vice Chancellor Prof. Simon Ortuanya, the Registrar, and other officials of the University’s Examinations and Records Department.

It was earlier reported that operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) had visited the main campus of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in connection with allegations that the Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Nnaji, had forged his degree certificate.

Newsbaxket learnt that Nnaji’s resignation was not unconnected to the fact-finding visit of officials of the DSS to quiz top officials of the university, including the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Simon Ortuanya, the Registrar, and other officials of the university.

The DSS submitted her report to the president and this may have triggered the resignation of Nnaji at the instance of the president who ordered him to submit his letter of resignation.

Like or hate President Tinubu, he has displayed integrity and character in the management of Nnaji’s certificate forgery scandal, unlike his predecessor, late President Buhari who did not manage the cases of his communications minister, Adebayo Shittu skipping the national youth service and Kemi Adeosun’s NYSC forged certificate imbroglio.

Nigerians calling for the prosecution of Uche Nnaji may be disappointed, especially considering the precedent set by late President Buhari, who did not bow to calls for the prosecution of Adebayo Shittu and Kemi Adeosun.

Will President Tinubu bow to the pressure of Nigerians for the prosecution of Nnaji, especially considering the report of the DSS on the certificate forgery scandal?
