Pa Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, a revered national leader and elder statesman is dead. Chief Clark died peacefully in Abuja on the evening of Monday, February 17, 2025, at the age of 97.
The demise of the the former Federal Commissioner for Information was confirmed in a terse statement by a representative of the family, Prof. C. C. Clark, on Tuesday.
The statement said, “The Clark-Fuludu Bekederemo family of Kiagbodo Town, Delta State, wishes to announce the passing of Chief (Dr.) Sen. Edwin Kiagbodo Clark OFR, CON on Monday, 17th February 2025.
Pa Clark’s passage happened few days after nationalist Pa Ayo Adebanjo died at the age of 95.
He was a Federal Commissioner for Information in the First Republic who also served as senator in Second Republic, would have been 98 years on May 25.
A distinguished lawyer, activist, and politician, Chief Edwin Clark was a prominent leader of the South-South region of Nigeria and the Ijaw ethnic nationality. He founded PANDEF and co-led the South and Middle Belt Leaders Forum (SMBLF), advocating tirelessly for justice, equality, and human rights.
Chief Clark, a vocal advocate for the rights of the Niger Delta people, played a significant role in Nigeria’s political landscape, championing resource control and regional development. His passing marks the end of an era for the Ijaw nation and the entire Niger Delta region.
Burial plans will be announced later by his family.
