Tinubu Confers Super Falcons With National Honours, Awards $100,000 To Players
President Bola Tinubu has bestowed national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger, OON,, on the Super Falcons and the coaching crew.
The president told the cheering crowd that he wanted to avoid watching the Falcons-Morocco match out of fear of blood pressure but when visitors visited him, they insisted on watching the match with him. He said that after 2 goals scored by Morocco players, his confidence was shaken but his belief in the spirit of the Falcons kept him watching the game, and when Nigeria equalized, his confidence soared until the winning goal was scored by Ijamilusi.
At the reception held to welcome the Falcons for winning the 2024 WAFCON in Morocco, President Tinubu presented the players with a cash award of the naira equivalent of $100,000 each to the 24 players, and $50,000 to each of the 11-man coaching crew.
The Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, also donated ₦10 million to each of the 24 players and the coaching team on behalf of Nigerian governors.
