President Bola Tinubu’s Visit To Lagos – Security Breaches
President Bola Tinubu, after attending the France government organised Summit on ‘New Global Financing Pact’ in Paris, departed to London on a private visit.
Tinubu flew directly from London to Lagos to celebrate the Muslim Eid-el-Kabir festival. The presidential jet arrived at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos.
Observation of basic security protocol around the president was thrown to the dogs. The crowd of government officials, presidential aides, photo journalists and APC party supporters overwhelmed security officials.
The Lagos welcome reception for president Tinubu is a far cry from the security arrangement of his predecessor, Buhari and very unprofessional albeit it is Tinubu’s first visit to Lagos after his inauguration as president.
The blame for the collapse of security breaches around the president should be squarely placed on the shoulders of the security agencies – Police, DSS, DMI and Military authorities; they were professionally uncoordinated.
Principally, the DSS is responsible for the president’s security but in this case were definitely not actively in charge.
Also, agents did not cordon off the perimeters of the president’s walk path as he proceeded to the stage to take the presidential salute from military parade officers. The presence of sniffer dogs were notably absent.
Going forward, leaders of security agencies must key into the vision of president Tinubu, when he stated that security agencies must work together as a team.
The ‘drama’ that took place on Tuesday evening at the welcome reception for the president must not be replicated. Security agencies must work together to coordinate security. There is more to security, than arms bearing officials.
