Governor Akeredolu Dies In Germany

Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has died at the age of 67 after a prolonged illness.

Akeredolu died at about 2:00 am on Wednesday at a German hospital where he was receiving treatment, a senior government official in Ondo State, according to a press statement  by the government of Ondo State.

According reports, he died of leukemia and prostate cancer.

Akeredolu returned to Nigeria in September after embarking on a three-month medical leave in Germany.

He handed over power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on December 13, for him to travel to Germany for treatment after his health reportedly worsened.

The acting deputy governor, Lucky  Aiyedatiwa, has been sworn in as substantive governor of Ondo State.
