Football Fans Criticise Minister For Sports And Nigeria Football Federation President, As Falconet Arrive Abuja

Nigerian fans criticised the leadership of the sports ministry and football federation over the shoddy handling of Nigeria’s Falconets who represented the nation at the recent Under-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica.

The team won all their group matches and qualified for the next round. They lost to Netherlands by two goals to nil.

The Falconets missed their flight in.Colombia due to delays by the airline. Subsequently, they missed their flight. Members of the team spent a harrowing 24-hours at the Istanbul airport, without transit visa, hotel accommodation arrangement, and were made to sleep on the floor at the Istanbul airport.

The team finally arrived Abuja on Wednesday but fans reacted angrily at the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, when videos of their arrival was posted on the Falcons Tweeter handle.

Media aide to the Minister For Sports, Toyin Ibitoye, welcomed the team on behalf of the sports minister. He also presented a gift the team’s coach, Christopher Danjuma.
