Liz Truss has risen from opposition councillor on a Labour-dominated local authority, to the biggest job of them all.
There is more than a string of ambition splashing around Westminster, and more than a few others who saw themselves becoming prime minister.
She defeated her closest rival, Rishi Sunak. Sunak had 60,399 votes, while Liz Truss had 81,326 votes.
She promised to cut down on rising energy prices and national health services.
For Liz Truss, this ambition becomes reality tomorrow when Boris Johnson officially submits his resignation letter to the Queen. Thereafter, Truss will be officially sworn-in as Prime minister of the Conservatives.
